Cricket remains one of the sports of choice for South Africans and ever since the SA20 competition began on January 10, their enthusiasm for the game has become more fervent than ever before.

While it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Durban's Super Giants (DSG), they have enjoyed their moments in the ongoing season. Despite winning just two of their seven games so far, there hasn't been a lack of players stepping up and shining on an individual capacity for the team.

The Super Giants are left with three more games in the tournament to salvage something from it before the playoffs get underway. With that in mind, let's have a closer look at the top performers for the Super Giants this season.

Heinrich Klaasen

Heinrich Klaasen, the Protea gloveman, has been one of the best contributors for the Super Giants so far. The hard-hitting batter has scored 259 runs in seven SA20 games at an average of 51.80. Striking at 148, Klaasen has already recorded three crucial half-centuries for the Super Giants and hit 16 fours and 11 sixes.

He is fourth on the chart for the most runs in SA20 2023.

Reece Topley

The English lanky Reece Topley has been phenomenal for the Super Giants in the ongoing tournament. Topley has picked seven wickets in five games so far and played a big part in the two games that DSG won. Topley scalped three crucial wickets against Paarl Royals and two against MI Cape Town in the Super Giants’ two wins in the ongoing tournament.

Averaging 19.42, he has bowled at a decent economy of 8.50 and will be a threat to opposition teams in the remaining games.

Prenelan Subrayen

Prenelan Subrayen has been one of the best spinners in the ongoing SA20. The South African all-rounder has picked six wickets in as many games so far.

With five wickets in his first three games, he started the season in solid fashion but has slowed down slightly since. That said, Subrayen has bowled economically at 7.38 and averages 20.50, making him one of the Super Giants’ best performers and a player to keep an eye on.

Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock, one of the best South African batters of the modern era, has been leading the Super Giants in the ongoing SA20.

He smashed 78 runs off 52 against Joburg Super Kings in the team’s season opener. His blistering knock comprised five boundaries and just as many sixes.

So far, he has amassed 165 runs in seven games with two fifties at an average of 23.57. De Kock has hit 14 boundaries as well as 10 sixes and has a strike rate of almost 140 in the tournament.

Kyle Mayers

Caribbean all-rounder Kyle Mayers has been among the best picks of the SA20 auction. Mayers came into the tournament with a reputation for being an impact player and recorded three thirty-plus scores in the team’s first three games of the tournament.

In the ongoing season, Mayers has scored 163 runs in seven games at an average of 23.28. More than handy with the ball in hand as well, Mayers has also scalped two wickets in the tournament so far.
