Durban’s Super Giants will be on the road for our last away game of the season as we take on the Paarl Royals on January 13 at 5:30 PM SAST at Boland Park in Paarl. With the business end of SA20 Season 4 fast approaching, this clash shapes up as a massive one in the context of the points table.
We head into this fixture on the back of a huge confidence boost. Last time out, we stunned table-toppers Sunrisers Eastern Cape in a thrilling contest in Gqeberha.
Our bowlers set the tone early, with Sunil Narine and Noor Ahmad leading a disciplined attack to restrict the Sunrisers to 159. What followed was a rollercoaster chase.
Aiden Markram and Marques Ackerman provided an explosive start at the top, laying the foundation before the finish turned nervy. Under pressure, Gerald Coetzee and Evan Jones held their nerve, striking clutch boundaries to get us over the line in a tense, two-wicket finish that underlined the character in this group.
Overall, we have won two of our eight matches so far, while three games have been washed out due to rain. The stop-start nature of the campaign hasn’t made things easy, but despite that, we remain firmly in contention for a playoff spot in SA20 Season 4. The table is tight, and a strong run at the back end could change everything.
Individually, there have been some standout performances. Jos Buttler has led the way with the bat, topping our run charts with 166 runs in seven matches, while Noor Ahmad has been our most effective bowler, currently leading the wickets tally with five scalps.
As we prepare for our final away assignment, the focus is clear. We want to build on that morale-boosting win from Sunday, carry the momentum forward, and aim to get the job done once again before returning home for the final stretch of the campaign.
