The Durban’s Super Giants were narrowly defeated by the Joburg Super Kings after a Super Over at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, on New Year’s Day in the SA20 Season 4 contest.
Noor Ahmad starred with the ball, scalping three wickets for just 12 runs, but JSK ended up posting a daunting 205/4. Evan Jones and Aiden Markram smashed it all around the park in the chase; however, the scores were tied, and the Super Kings edged out the Super Over.
It was a difficult start for us as the JSK openers piled on 89 runs for the first wicket. Noor and Simon Harmer’s economical spells stemmed the flow of runs in the middle overs, with the duo taking four wickets combined. Shubham Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira hit a few long handles towards the end to take the Super Kings past 200.
In reply, we started slowly, but skipper Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen built momentum to keep us in the game. Evan Jones, later, smashed a 17-ball 43 to reignite the Super Giants’ spirits going into the final two overs. David Wiese, Eathan Bosch and Simon Harmer then ensured the match went into a Super Over.
Sadly, the one-over face-off didn’t go our way as we scored just five runs, which was chased down.
Next up, we face the Pretoria Capitals in Centurion on January 3. Despite the defeat in Joburg, we have plenty of positives to take and bounce back, hopefully with our second win of SA20 Season 4.
