Going into the final league game of SA20 2024 with a Qualifier 1 spot already confirmed speaks volumes about the way our boys have played so far.

However, there’s always room to push for more and a win against Joburg Super Kings in Johannesburg on Saturday will make us the first team to register eight wins in the league stage in SA20.

The last time we faced JSK, Heinrich Klaasen’s 41-ball 64 helped us post a competitive 145/8 in 20 overs. Our bowlers, led by skipper Keshav Maharaj, restricted them to 108/9 in front of our home fans and secured the victory with a bonus point.

We have had several match-winners throughout the season, propelling us to the top of the SA20 2024 points table with seven wins from nine matches.

Matthew Breetzke’s solid 73 and Junior Dala’s 5/26 were standout performances in our eight-run win over Pretoria Capitals in the previous match. Breetzke and Klaasen are second and third on the list of top scorers this season. Klaasen, striking at over 200, also has the highest strike rate among all batsmen.

Maharaj has also marshalled his troops brilliantly, making the most of the variety brought to the table by Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Marcus Stoinis and Reece Topley. All bowlers have been at the top of their game whenever they have had an opportunity with the ball.

On the other hand, JSK’s hope of making it to the playoffs is hanging in the balance and Saturday’s encounter may just be make-or-break for them. JSK were bowled out for 78 against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in their previous game and lost the match by nine wickets.

The home team will pin their hopes on their top order of Leus du Plooy, Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks to come good against our world-class bowling lineup.

Joburg Super Kings vs Durban’s Super Giants head-to-head record

We won our previous meeting against JSK this season by 37 runs. Last season, we lost twice against them. Quinton de Kock led the 190-run chase at Kingsmead with a 52-ball 78 but the team fell short by 16 runs. Klaasen’s 48-ball 65 powered DSG to 178 at Bullring but JSK eked out a win in the final over.
