Having secured a spot in the SA20 2024 playoffs with a commanding victory over Paarl Royals, we brace for a challenge from Pretoria Capitals at Kingsmead on Tuesday.

We started this season with three straight wins. However, our juggernaut was halted by Pretoria Capitals at Centurion. Round two awaits and our fearless squad is raring to even the score after that 17-run loss.

As we gear up for Tuesday’s clash, not much has changed for us on the points table. With 28 points from eight games, we are still bossing the points table with Paarl Royals six points behind in second place. Capitals are currently out of the top three and have their playoff hopes in balance with 10 points from seven games.

Pretoria Capitals come to Kingsmead on the heels of a washout at Centurion against Joburg Super Kings but we are riding high on our second three-match winning streak of the season.

The collective brilliance of our team has been the standout feature this year.

Though Lungi Ngidi of Paarl Royals leads the chart for top wicket-takers with 13 scalps, the next three on the list are from our team. Skipper Keshav Maharaj and Reece Topley have picked up 11 wickets and are next on the list of highest wicket-takers in SA20 2024.

Marcus Stoinis, who has picked up 10 wickets despite missing the first three matches of the season, follows Maharaj and Topley. Noor Ahmad is eighth on the list, wreaking havoc with nine wickets from four matches.

Wayne Parnell has been the Capitals’ top wicket-taker with six scalps from five matches.

On the batting front too, Matthew Breetzke has been consistent as an opener for us and has been the season’s second-highest run-scorer with 301 runs, averaging over 37 and striking at 144. Heinrich Klaasen, fresh off the fastest fifty in SA20 history, is fourth on the list with 280 runs and a jaw-dropping strike rate of 207.40!

Will Jacks, who scored a century at Centurion against us last time, will be the man to watch out for in the opposition. Jacks has 177 runs this season at a strike rate of over 180.

Durban’s Super Giants vs Pretoria Capitals head-to-head record

We lost the last match against Pretoria Capitals this season by 17 runs. Reece Topley picked up 3/34 in that game but the Capitals still posted 204/9. We finished on 187/7.

Last season, Klaasen’s unbeaten 104 in 44 balls led us to 254/4 in 20 overs. It is the highest total in SA20 history and we won that match by a margin of a whopping 151 runs. We lost the home game by eight wickets.
