Biography
Marques Ackerman’s cricketing story is one of quiet consistency and steady growth rather than overnight fame. Born in Johannesburg, he developed a love for the game early in life and quickly stood out for his natural timing and composure at the crease. A left-handed batter known for his elegant stroke play, Ackerman worked his way through South Africa’s domestic structure with determination and discipline.
He began his professional journey with North West, making his first-class debut in 2015, and was soon part of the 2016 Africa T20 Cup squad. His performances improved season by season, and a move to KwaZulu-Natal proved to be the turning point. In the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, he became his team’s top scorer, and he followed that up by finishing as their leading run-getter in the 3-Day Provincial Cup.
Ackerman’s leadership qualities came to the fore when he was appointed captain of the Dolphins in 2022. His success as a leader extended beyond domestic cricket, as he was also entrusted with captaining the South Africa A side on multiple occasions. In franchise cricket, he featured for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and later the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 League, before joining the Durban Super Giants for the third edition of the tournament.
